How do you work with teammates who've siloed into one part of the stack?

I grew up in Syria, in a poor and risky neighborhood where we had electricity 2 to 4 hours a day. I was a tech nerd as a kid, but my high school grades weren’t high enough for computer science. Between my parents and everyone around me, I ended up in electrical engineering instead. My first year I studied in another city, living on money my parents sent me.
